In this paper, the level of contamination of the Sava River water and floodplain was asssessed using microbiological indicators of fecal pollution. Wastewater outlet near the Belgrade Fair was chosen as a case study. Quantification of total coliforms, faecal coliforms and fecal enterococci was performed using the Colilert-18 and Enterolert-E systems. The analysis of the number of clostridian spores was carried out by membrane filtration in accordance with the ISO 14189 standard. The results of microbiological analyzes indicate a high degree of contamination of the water and floodplain area at the investigated location, as well as the potential risk that detected fecal pollution may represent for the health of persons who use the investigated area for recreation.
