AB - The stomach content of 277 Amur sleeper individuals has been analyzed to present its feeding habits. Fish were sampled using electrofishing from July to November 2017 in the Danube River drainage channel near Veliko Gradište (Serbia). Fish age was estimated by otoliths examination. Ingested prey organisms were identified to the lowest reliable taxonomic level. The biotic indices: vacuity index (VI), frequency of occurrence (F), abundance (Cn), index of importance (PV), Shannon’s diversity index (H’), and equitability index (Eh) were calculated. A total of 18 prey categories and 1144 individual prey were identified in the fish diet, dominantly aquatic macroinvertebrates. There were no significant difference in diet composition between sampling months as well as 0+, 1+, and 2+ age groups (both 3+ and 4+ had one individual). Only eight individuals were found with empty intestines, thus VI was low (2.9). In average, each fish had 4.1 prey items in their intestines. For whole sample, H′ was 1.84 and Eh was 0.64. Trichoptera, Ephemeroptera, and Gastropoda were the most frequent, dominant, and abundant. The greatest diversity of prey items was recorded for fish sampled in October as well as for 2+ individuals, and the lowest for fish from August and 0+ individuals.

AB - Accumulation of Al, As, B, Ba, Ca, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Hg, K, Li, Mg, Mn, Mo, Na, Ni, P, Pb, S, Se, Si, Sr, and Zn was analyzed in gills, liver, gonads, and muscle of European chub (Squalius cephalus), Cactus roach (Rutilus virgo), and pikeperch (Sander lucioperca) from Zlatar reservoir (Serbia) using inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES). The highest concentrations of Cu in liver as well as Ba, Ca, Fe, Mn, Na, P, and Sr in gills were detected in all fish species, while the lowest concentrations of Cu, Fe, Mn, Na, and Zn were detected in muscle. Pikeperch had significantly lower concentrations of Ba in all tissues compared to the other species, as well as Fe, P, and Sr in muscle, K, Mg, Mn, Sr, and Zn in gills, and Fe in gonads. European chub had significantly higher concentrations of Ca, Cu, and Zn in muscle, Cu in liver, and Cr and Cu in gonads compared to Cactus roach and pikeperch. Cd concentration in one individual of Cactus roach exceeded the maximum allowed concentration. The muscle was exposed to the lowest pressure of metal pollution in all species, and European chub accumulated more metals compared to the other species. There is no significant health risk due to consumption of investigated species. A major hazard index (HI) contributor in all species was Hg. According to the target carcinogenic risk factor (TR), target hazard quotient (THQ), and HI, men are under lower health risk compared to the women. The TR and THQ for As, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, and Zn as well as HI values were higher for European chub compared to the other species. On the other hand, THQ for Hg was highest for pikeperch.

AB - In recent decades, the Amur sleeper (Perccottus glenii) is one of the most impressive east-to-west invaders of European inland waters, but there are insufficient data on its biology in the countries it has entered. Specimens of two sets of samples from November 2015 (n=25) and October 2016 (n=39) were caught in the Danube River channel near Veliko Gradište (Serbia) by electrofishing. Thirty morphometric and eight meristic characteristics of the collected fish were measured with the aim of describing the general body shape in more detail using the “point-to-point” method. This is the first attempt to obtain morphometric and meristic characteristics of Amur sleeper caught in Serbia. The results revealed a relatively low variability in the morphometric and meristic characters of the studied population. When compared to other studies, there was a great variability of the studied characteristics between geographically distant European populations that inhabit different water body types. Female fish had more robust bodies compared to males of the same length, while males had longer pectoral, anal and dorsal fins. Additionally, 2+ individuals had more robust heads and jaws, as well as longer anterior parts of the body compared to 1+ individuals of the same size.

AB - During 4 seasons (middle of summer, late summer, early autumn, middle of autumn)
measurements of chlorophyll-a have been conducted, along a 30 m water column (2 m interval). Variability of chlorophyll-a concentrations and their vertical distribution were analyzed. During the thermal stratification period, maximal concentrations of measured parameter were recorded in the metalimnion layer. TSI values varied within 36.9 – 49.4, thus indicating oligotrophic and mesotrophic status of reservoir depending on season.

AB - The surface area of Montenegro’s portion of the Black Sea drainage basin is 7075 km2, or 0.9% of the entire basin, and is made up of the rivers Tara, Piva, Lim, Ćehotina and Ibar, and Lake Plav. The major polluters of watercourses are wastewaters and solid waste from inhabited settlements. According to water categorization regulations, the rivers of the Danube Basin in Montenegro are, based on the status quo, classified into four quality classes. Thus, the mid- and lower courses of the larger rivers fall within quality classes II and III. The water quality of the Lim, downstream of Berane, worsens at its exit from Montenegro and falls into quality class III. The Ibar profile downstream of Bać is largely out of a prescribed class. The Ćehotina downstream of Pljevlja is in water quality class III, and occasionally out of a prescribed class. The Tara belongs to the Durmitor National Park, but its water quality is class I only at its most upstream profile; its profiles downstream of Kolašin are from class II to class III. These findings are confirmed by analyses of their aquatic macroinvertebrate communities, i.e. Oligochaeta, as bioindicators of water quality. The ichthyofauna of the Danube Basin rivers in Montenegro comprises 20 fish species. Hydromorphological alterations of watercourses, such as dam construction, have a significant effect on fish populations. Thus, the dam on the Piva river has a negative effect on the fish population, presenting a barrier to migration routes, as is the case with huchen or Danube salmon (Hucho hucho).

AB - The aim of this study was to describe biometric and feeding characteristics of highly invasive species Perccottus glenii in the investigated locality. A total of 85 fish were electrofished in the drainage channel located at the vicinity of Veliko Gradište (northeastern
Serbia) and preserved in the alcohol solution. In the laboratory, fish were measured (TL,
± 0.01 mm; W, ± 0.01 g), otholits and digestive tracts were removed for age determination
and dietary analysis (stereomicroscope). Biometric analysis included length-frequency
distribution using 10 mm class intervals; determination of average length and weight for
each age group; lenght-weigth relationship; Fulton’s condition factor. Ingested organisms
were identified to the lowest reliable taxonomic level (mainly order) and counted. The
respective ranges of TL and W of examined fish were 35-140.7 mm and 0.5-40 g. Length
class 70.1-80.0 mm clearly dominated (24%). Four age groups were determined (0+-3+),
and their descriptive statistics is presented. The value of allometric coefficient for the
length-weight relationship (b= 3.068) indicated isometric growth. Fulton’s condition factor did not differ between age groups. Empty digestive tract was found in 2 specimens. A
total of 12 prey categories representing Ephemeroptera, Trichoptera, Odonata, Hemiptera,
Chironomidae, Coleoptera, Gastropoda, Hirudinea, Oligochaeta, Gammaraidae, unidentified and terrestrial insects were identified in the diet. Generally, the diet is entirely composed of aquatic invertebrates, as only one terrestrial insect was found. Obtained results
did not show clear difference in diet composition between age groups. However, analysis
have shown that the most diverse diet characterize 2+ age. By frequency, the insect larvae
were categories with highest participation regardless of age.

AB - In the Serbian part of the Danube River, of the 25 fish species recorded, five species from
the Gobiidae family have a participation with 10-20%. Since the early seventies, the
spreading of the gobiids along the Danube River has been reported, mainly owing to the
construction of dams and channels linking larger rivers. The round goby Neogobius
melanostomus is a fairly small bottom-dwelling fish, living in brackish and freshwater
environments. It is typically found near sandy, stony bottoms. This fish mostly stays in one
place with noticeably restricted movement. A patchy distribution and long distances
between native regions of occurrence and newly settled areas is characteristic for the
current world distribution of the species. Most probably, transport has occurred in ballast
waters. The aim of our study was to analyse the intestinal content of round goby in the
Serbian part of the Danube River Basin.
The fish samples were collected during October 2018 at three localities in the
Danube River (Zemun and Stari Slankamen) and Velika Morava River (Ljubičevo). A total of
35 individuals of round goby were collected and examined. Fish were caught with
electrofishing ((HONDA 1,2кW, 6 А) and transported to the laboratory, where the analysis
of their intestines for food items was conducted. The intestines were examined under an
Olympus binocular microscope and an Olympus stereomicroscope. Identification was
carried out to the species level, using the appropriate identification keys.
At the locality Ljubičevo, eight from 18 sampled specimens were without intestine
content. At the localities Zemun and Stari Slankamen, one specimen of ten and seven,
respectively, was without food items. The analysis showed that the intestinal content of
the round gobies consisted of representatives of the family Gammaridae (Dikerogammarus
sp.), insect larvae (Trichoptera), Gastropoda, Bivalvia (family Unionidae) and Oligochaeta.
The diet of fish samples from Ljubičevo consisted mostly of gammarids and oligochaets,
while this of fish from Zemun and Stari Slankamen from caddisfly larvae and molluscs.
Round gobies are voracious feeders, eating mussels and other molluscs, with up to 60% of
their diet made up of mussels in some places. They also eat aquatic insect larvae and the
young and eggs of other fish.

(temperatura, koncentracija rastvorenog kiseonika, pH, konduktivitet i koncentracija
hlorofila-a) u vodi akumulacije „Uvac” tokom sezone sredina leta – rana jesen 2017.
godine. Tokom posmatranog dela vegetacione sezone vodu ove akumulacije odlikuje direktna termička stratifikacija. Dubinska distribucija ostalih praćenih parametara usko prati uspostavljenu termičku stratifikaciju.
AB - The aim of the study was to describe the depth distribution of selected water quality
parameters (temperature, dissolved oxygen content, pH, conductivity and chlorophyll – a
concentration) in the "Uvac" reservoir during the middle of the summer to early autumn
2017. During observed part of the vegetation season, direct thermal stratification of water
was recorded. Depth distribution of other water quality parameters closely followed the
thermal stratification.
