AB - Northern pike specimens of 0+, 1+, and 2+ age classes were collected in June 2013 from the Vizelj channel near Belgrade (Serbia). Inductively coupled plasma optical spectrometry (ICP-OES) and atomic absorption spectrometer SpectrAA 220 were used for analyzing concentrations of As, Cr, Cd, Co, Cu, Fe, Sr, Pb, and Zn, as well as Hg in muscle, gills, and liver. Metal pollution index (MPI) was calculated. Concentrations of As, Cd, Co, and Pb were below the limit of detection. Concentrations of Cu, Hg, and Zn in muscle did not exceed the maximum allowed concentrations. The gills were tissue which was most affected by pollution. The highest concentrations of Fe in muscle, Cr and Fe in gills, and Hg, Sr, and Zn in liver were recorded in 0+ individuals, as well as Zn in gills of 2+ individuals. On contrary, the lowest concentrations were recorded for Zn in gills of 0+ individuals, Hg in gills of 1+ individuals, and Fe in muscle, Cr and Sr in gills, and Zn in liver of 2+ individuals. Regarding age classes, 2+ juveniles had the highest MPI values for all tissues. Correlations between the metal(loid) accumulation and fish condition were not significant, as well as between fish length and weight and Cu and Hg in muscle, Cu, Hg, and Sr in gills, and Cu, Cr, and Fe in liver. Results indicated that young individuals were more sensitive to pollution, but older fish showed higher overall bioaccumulation of toxic elements analyzed in this study.

AB - This study was conducted during the summer of 2017 in three reservoirs in Serbia: Garaši,
Perućac, and Medjuvršje. Measurements of temperature, dissolved oxygen concentration, pH,
suspended particles, conductivity and concentration of chlorophyll-a were performed with a
multiparameter water quality probe (YSI 6600 V2) from water surface to 5 m depth, with an
interval of 1 m. The obtained results showed that Garaši reservoir stood out as the reservoir
with the highest dissolved oxygen contentration and the highest concentration of chlorophyll
a., and with alkaline water (pH> 8).

AB - Northern Pike is the top piscivore and phytophilic species strongly dependent on backwaters and vegetated river areas for spawning and recruitment. The aim of the present
study was to examine dependence between metal concentrations (As, Cr, Cd, Co, Cu, Fe,
Sr, Pb, Zn, Hg) and examined fish tissues, as well as of fish age. In June 2013, 26 samples
of pike have been collected using electrofishing (HONDA 1,2кW, 6 А). Collection was
performed in irrigation Channel Vizelj, runs through the suburban section of Belgrade.
The content of heavy metals was determined in samples of fish tissues of different ages
using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). Age analysis indicated
that fish belonged to age classes from 0+ to 2+. Metals As, Cd, Co and Pb were not detected in analyzed fish tissues, and Cu was not detected in muscle tissue of 2+ and 1+
specimens. The majority of the analyzed elements were found in minimal concentrations
in the muscle, except 0+ specimens with high Fe concentrations. Gills of all analyzed age
classes were loaded with very high concentrations of Fe and Sr. In gills of 1+ and 2+ fish
were also detected high Zn concentrations while in 0+ fish were detected Fe. The highest
concentrations of Cu were detected in liver of all fish age classes. The youngest age class
(0+) was differentiated by higher concentrations of Cr, Cu, Fe, Sr and Zn in muscle tissue,
while the oldest age class was mainly differentiated by higher concentrations for Zn and
Hg in gills.

AB - Some recent data show that five gobiid species have spread outside their native range and
expanded their distribution area in Serbia along the rivers Danube, Tisza, Sava, and Velika
Morava. These are: monkey goby Neogobius fluviatilis, racer goby Neogobius
gymnotrachelus, bighead goby Neogobius kessleri, round goby Neogobius melanostomus,
and tubenose goby Proterorhinus semilunaris.
The aim of this study was to compare the efficiency of two different methods for
fish sampling, as well as to assess influence of the diel period on catch of gobiids in the
Serbian stretch of the Danube River. During October 2012 and September 2013, the
sampling was performed by electrofishing and beach seining in four riverside locations of
the Danube River, as follows: at Novi Sad (river km 1257), Belgrade (river km 1173), Tekija
(river km 956), and Prahovo (river km 862), with the water depth being of up to 120 cm. At
each location, the sampling was performed at 17:30, 18:30, 19:30 and 20:30.
A total of 551 gobies were caught. The highest number of specimens (238) was
registered at Tekija, followed by the sites at Belgrade (192) and Prahovo (109), and only 12
specimens caught at Novi Sad. The catch of the round goby and monkey goby was more
efficient by beach seining than by electrofishing, while the catch of the tubenose goby was
more efficient by electrofishing. Both methods had similar efficiency in terms of the catch
of the bighead goby and racer goby. The species diversity and the number of caught
specimens were the highest at 18:30. All five species were recorded at the sites of Belgrade,
Tekija and Prahovo, while only the monkey goby and racer goby were caught at Novi Sad.
The methods used in this study showed good efficiency in catch of gobiids, especially at
dusk. Despite the difficulty in using these methods in certain habitats, we assume that they
could be highly relevant in the regular monitoring of gobiids along the inshore parts of the
rivers.

AB - Endohelminths of Mediterranean barbel (Barbus peloponnesius petenyi) from tributaries of the Kolubara River were studied as a part of ichthyoparasitological research in Serbia. Fish specimens from the River Gradac were collected in 1987, and from the rivers Gradac, Jablanica and Pocibrava in 1995. The 117 Mediterranean barbel studied specimens' were of different age (0+ to 4+), 3.5 - 16.3 cm length and 0.5 - 52.7 g weight. In specimens' intestines contained the following parasites: two species of Trematoda (Diplostomum sp. and Allocreadium isoporum), three species of Cestoda (Caryophyllaeus brachycollis, Bathybothrium rectangulum and Bothriocephalus opsariichthydis), four species of Nematoda (Cystidicoloides ephmeridarum, Rhabdochona denudata, Raphidascaris acus juv. and Philometroides sp.) and one species of Acantocephala (Pomphorhynchus laevis).
