Mediterranean Horseshoe Bat prefers karst areas with caves and mines, hunting in deciduous forests and avoiding conifers and open habitats. Both maternity and hibernation colonies usually include one main group with a few thousand bats and several satellite colonies of 10-300 individuals. In Serbia this species has been ringed since 1955. Altogether there were 1,036 bats ringed at 24 localities, mostly at eastern Serbia. Up to 2017, 25 recovery records were found. Almost all of them were loco, but one bat moved 4 km from Lazareva Pećina to Hajdučka Pećina cave. One individual was recaptured four times during 13.5 years, speaking of extreme philopatry of this species.sr
