Endohelminths of Mediterranean barbel, Barbus peloponnesius petenyi, in running waters of West Serbia (Yugoslavia)

Abstract

Endohelminths of Mediterranean barbel (Barbus peloponnesius petenyi) from tributaries of the Kolubara River were studied as a part of ichthyoparasitological research in Serbia. Fish specimens from the River Gradac were collected in 1987, and from the rivers Gradac, Jablanica and Pocibrava in 1995. The 117 Mediterranean barbel studied specimens' were of different age (0+ to 4+), 3.5 - 16.3 cm length and 0.5 - 52.7 g weight. In specimens' intestines contained the following parasites: two species of Trematoda (Diplostomum sp. and Allocreadium isoporum), three species of Cestoda (Caryophyllaeus brachycollis, Bathybothrium rectangulum and Bothriocephalus opsariichthydis), four species of Nematoda (Cystidicoloides ephmeridarum, Rhabdochona denudata, Raphidascaris acus juv. and Philometroides sp.) and one species of Acantocephala (Pomphorhynchus laevis).
